Gabriel Sampol, President of Sampol Group, has passed away at the age of 87. He is deeply mourned by the business community, where he was regarded as one of the most respected and beloved entrepreneurs.
Born in Montuïri (Mallorca) in 1936, Don Gabriel dedicated his entire professional life to the family business founded by his father, José Sampol Arbona, in 1934. Under his leadership, Sampol Group grew into one of the leading multinational companies in the energy sector. Today, the group has a permanent presence in Spain, Italy, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Panama, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Aruba, Peru, Canada and Cape Verde. Over its 88-year history, it has carried out international projects in 22 countries across four continents.
Among the many awards and recognitions he received throughout his career, in July 2011, Gabriel Sampol was awarded the Medal of Merit for Work, honouring his entrepreneurial spirit and unwavering dedication.
He was an inspiring figure – an eternal optimist, resilient in the face of challenges and someone who embraced life to the fullest. He was also a tireless worker, intelligent and determined.
He passed away peacefully, without suffering, surrounded by his greatest love – his wife, Paz – along with his children and grandchildren.
This is a moment of deep sorrow for all of us at Sampol: family, friends, colleagues and employees alike.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, children and loved ones.
