On Thursday, 29 February, as part of the 2024 Balearic Islands Day celebrations, the official ceremony for the Ramón Llull Awards and the 2024 Gold Medal took place. Don Gabriel Sampol was honoured posthumously with the Ramón Llull Award, which was accepted on his behalf by his wife, Paz Massanet, and their four children, Juan Carlos, Fernando, Carmen and José Luís.
The Ramón Llull Award, granted by the Government of the Balearic Islands, recognises individuals or organisations that have made significant contributions to the region in fields such as culture, sport, law, business, civic engagement, humanitarian work, research, education and language.
The President of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Margalida Prohens, presented the awards to the 16 recipients and also awarded the Gold Medal, the highest distinction of the Autonomous Community, to Her Majesty Queen Sofía, acknowledging her deep connection and social commitment to the islands.
