Aena has awarded SAMPOL the contract for the renewal of the approach systems on two runways at Palma Airport, marking a technological achievement in the systems used. The project involves the complete upgrade of three approach systems on runways 06L and 24L.
The key upgrades include:
- Lighting technology migration. Transition from halogen lamps to LED.
- Replacement of RIC regulators and isolation transformers (trafos). New components with similar characteristics, adapted to the lower power requirements of LED lighting.
- SIA 24L Cat I and SIA 24L Cat II/III
Migration of monitoring and control module technology for the Telemando ILCMS system. Upgrading from ASD modules (Honeywell) to LU modules (GRP).
The 06L Cat I approach system does not include this monitoring system. - SIA 24L Cat I and SIA 24L Cat II/III
Migration of communication module technology linked to the regulator for communication between LU modules and the Telemando ILCMS system. Replacing LCM modules with Smart CU-D modules (GRP). The 06L Cat I approach system does not include this monitoring system. - Renewal of other system elements with components of similar characteristics to the existing ones: primary and secondary cabling, inspection chambers, lattice towers, tubular masts for light support, etc.
- Runway 06L (SIA 06L Cat I): Replacement of the Category I precision approach system.
- Runway 24L: Replacement of two complementary approach systems, one Category I precision approach system (SIA 24L Cat I) and one Category II/III precision approach system (SIA 24L Cat II/III). The latter is designed for low-visibility conditions (LVP).
