The project has been funded under Program I – Investiga, promoting technological innovation applied to the tourism sector in the Balearic Islands.

SAMPOL has developed an innovative Digital Twin applied to hotel energy management, validated with real data from an establishment in Mallorca. The project has been funded through Program I – Investiga in the line of grants to finance innovative projects through cooperation with the aim of seeking, implementing, and digitizing innovative sustainable solutions in tourist establishments in the Balearic Islands, within the framework of the “Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union Next Generation EU.”

The initiative responds to one of the main challenges facing the tourism sector: improving energy efficiency without compromising guest comfort. Traditionally, hotel air conditioning systems have operated using fixed settings and trial-and-error approaches, which limited the application of advanced energy-saving strategies due to the risk of causing discomfort.

The Digital Twin developed by SAMPOL makes it possible, for the first time, to predictively link the supply temperature of the air conditioning system with the customer’s actual thermal comfort, using physical models, data analysis, and advanced optimization algorithms. The solution integrates operational variables, climate data, and thermal behavior models to simulate different scenarios before their actual application.

The tool incorporates an advanced visualization system that allows users to compare the energy impact and expected comfort level in each scenario, facilitating data-driven decision-making. This enables hotel management to choose different operational strategies—from prioritizing energy efficiency to maximizing comfort—with a quantified assessment of the economic impact and potential risk of non-compliance.

In addition, the system integrates economic variables, such as electricity market price forecasts, which expands its optimization capacity and makes it a solution aligned with new energy management and demand flexibility models.

This project is a highly strategic technological proof of concept, laying the foundations for the development of future commercial solutions aimed at decarbonization and efficiency in the tourism sector. Its replicable nature opens the door to its application in other hotel establishments, contributing to the improvement of energy sustainability in the Balearic Islands.

Con esta iniciativa, SAMPOL refuerza su apuesta por la innovación aplicada y consolida su posicionamiento en el desarrollo de soluciones tecnológicas avanzadas para el sector turístico.
