On 16 December, SAMPOL began a project at the Canary Islands Trade Fair Institution (INFECAR) involving the necessary works to install a new delivery and metering centre, a private transformer centre and the refurbishment of the low-voltage distribution system within the premises. The project is expected to last eight months.
The first phase of the project involves the construction of a new pavilion, requiring the rerouting of existing installations without disrupting the operation of the trade fair complex.
The planned works can be grouped into three main interrelated blocks, corresponding to the various projects that make up the overall works:
- Delivery and Metering Centre (CEM): The new Delivery and Metering Centre is required due to the need for increased power capacity in preparation for future planned expansions at the INFECAR site. It will be located in an adjacent outdoor area. From here, a duct will run along the street and around the parking area, leading to the Transformer Centre.
- Transformer Centre (CT): The Transformer Centre will be installed in “Zona Exterior 2”, adjacent to Pavilion 1. This area will house a new low-voltage room and a prefabricated ORMAZABAL building. A new C&R panel and an existing generator set, which will be relocated from the area affected by the planned expansion, will be installed in this room.
- Low-voltage installation (LV): LV works will be carried out in various sections, affecting different parts of the site. The reorganisation of the LV supply, to ensure that the facilities are not affected by the future construction of Pavilion 7 and planned expansions, will be based on a new distribution from a C&R panel. For this, new ducts will be installed or existing ones used, new connections will be made in LV and LV cables will be laid. A new distribution board will be installed, with a gradual disconnection of the old feeders and connection to the new ones. Additionally, the lighting distribution board, the generator set and the capacitor banks will be relocated from the Module Area to Zona Exterior 2.
The Institución Ferial de Canarias has pavilions for various uses, a conference centre with twelve versatile rooms, two large parking areas and landscaped zones. Spanning over 16,000 m² and with a capacity for more than 8,000 people, it is a venue with significant activity, hosting more than 200 events in 2023.
