The Port Authority of Bilbao <\/a> is advancing its sustainability and decarbonization strategy with an ambitious project to connect ships to the onshore power supply (OPS) at its main docks \u26a1\u2693 <\/p>\n

The project, carried out by the joint venture formed by COMSA Industrial<\/a>, SAMPOL y Montajes El\u00e9ctricos San Ignacio (MESI)<\/a>, includes the design, execution, and maintenance of the new electrical infrastructure, which will supply clean energy to ferries, container ships, and cruise ships during their stay in port.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd0c 9 OPS systems installed at docks A1, A2, A6, AZ3, and Getxo 2 and 3 will supply the port’s main traffic, replacing on-board generators with low-emission shore power.<\/p>\n

On a technical level, the project includes a 30 kV distribution network, specific substations depending on the type of ship, control and monitoring systems, and an underwater cable that will cross the Bilbao estuary to guarantee supply on both banks.<\/p>\n

With a budget of close to \u20ac50 million, this initiative represents one of the most significant port electrification projects in Spain, contributing to improved air quality and reduced noise pollution in the port and urban environment.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\udf0d This is another step towards a more sustainable maritime sector in line with the objectives of the European Green Deal (#EUGreenDeal), the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (#PNIEC), and the Regulation on Alternative Fuels Infraestructure (AFIR).<\/p>\n

This action is subsidized by #CEFTransport (#CINEA) of the European Comission<\/a> and co-financed by the EIB<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
