SAMPOL has been selected by Aena to lead the energy transition at Adolfo Su\u00e1rez Madrid-Barajas Airport for the next five years, further strengthening its position as a benchmark in sustainable energy solutions. The airport authority has once again awarded the Mallorca-based company the contract for operating the power plant that supplies electricity, heating and cooling to Terminal 4 (T4) and T4 Satellite (T4S) at Spain\u2019s largest airport.<\/p>\n
Over the next five years, SAMPOL will drive the airport\u2019s transition towards achieving Aena\u2019s net-zero emissions goal by 2030. \u00a0With a permanent presence in 14 countries, SAMPOL has designed a pathway towards a new energy model and will construct new facilities to electrify the thermal energy supply for climate control (heating and cooling). This initiative will position Madrid-Barajas Airport as a global leader in the European Union\u2019s decarbonisation efforts.<\/p>\n
At the turn of the century, SAMPOL designed and built the Madrid-Barajas trigeneration plant, which it has operated continuously ever since. At the time, the project was based on a highly efficient fuel utilisation model and an emergency power system ensuring operational continuity at Terminal 4, regardless of external conditions.<\/p>\n
After two decades of guaranteeing energy efficiency and uninterrupted supply to the airport\u2019s newest terminals, SAMPOL has once again obtained the highest technical and economic score in Aena\u2019s tender, securing its leadership in the airport\u2019s energy transition. This contract marks yet another milestone in SAMPOL\u2019s 90-year trajectory, underscoring its ability to deliver top-tier technical and economic solutions.<\/p>\n
The trigeneration plant at Madrid airport is a dual power plant that provides electricity, heating and cooling to cover the energy demands of T4 (470,000 m\u00b2) and T4S (315,000 m\u00b2) under both normal conditions and emergency scenarios, guaranteeing uninterrupted power supply in case of grid failures.<\/p>\n
With this award, SAMPOL strengthens its position in the energy sector, advancing the implementation of sustainable energy models at one of Europe\u2019s most important airports.\u00a0 This initiative prioritises net emissions reduction, aligning with EU environmental and decarbonisation targets for 2030, providing an energy service that is not only reliable and efficient but also environmentally responsible.<\/p>\n
